Crowns & Veneers
A crown covers a whole tooth. It is what you need when a tooth is cracked, worn down, heavily filled or has had a root canal, because at that point strengthening from the inside is no longer enough. We use all-porcelain crowns, so there is no dark metal margin creeping into view at the gum line as the years go by.
A veneer is a thin porcelain facing bonded to the front of a tooth, and it solves a different problem: a tooth that is sound but chipped, permanently stained, worn at the edge or slightly out of line with its neighbors. Crowns restore function. Veneers change appearance. At your visit we will tell you honestly which one your tooth actually calls for.

How the visit goes

Plan and prepare
We look at the tooth and images together and agree on the right restoration. Then the tooth is numbed and shaped to receive it.

Scan and temporary
We capture the tooth digitally or with an impression and fit a temporary so you can eat and smile normally in the meantime.

Fit the final
At the next visit we try in the finished porcelain, check the shade, the contacts and your bite, then bond it in place.

Broadly: a crown when the tooth needs strength, a veneer when the tooth is sound but does not look the way you want. Cracked, worn-down and heavily filled teeth need crowns. We will look and tell you which applies, including when the answer is neither.
Will it match my other teeth?
That is the whole point of porcelain, and we shade-match it to the teeth beside it. Worth knowing: porcelain does not respond to whitening, so if you are planning to whiten, do it first and we will match the new shade.
How long do they last?
Well-made porcelain restorations commonly last many years. What shortens that is grinding, which is why we may recommend a night guard, and decay at the margin, which is why the checkups still matter.
