Tooth-Colored Fillings
When decay has gotten into a tooth, the damaged part has to come out and the space has to be filled. We use tooth-colored composite, shaded to match the tooth it is going into, so a repaired molar does not flash silver every time you laugh. Composite also bonds directly to the tooth structure, which means we can often keep more of your natural tooth than an old-style filling required.
Cavities do not get better on their own. Caught early, a filling is a single, straightforward appointment. Left long enough, the same tooth needs a crown or a root canal instead. If we spot something small, we will tell you plainly whether it needs treating now or can be watched.

We numb the area, then remove the decay and clean the space that is left.

The composite is bonded in place in layers, then shaped to match the tooth and how it meets its partner above or below.

We polish it and check that your bite closes evenly. You will be eating normally the same day.

How long do white fillings last?
Years, with good home care and regular checkups. Lifespan depends on how big the filling is, where it sits and how hard you grind. We check your existing fillings at every exam and tell you when one is starting to fail.
Can you replace my old silver fillings?
Often, yes, particularly when a filling is worn, leaking or cracked. If an old filling is sound and causing no trouble, we will usually recommend leaving it alone and keeping an eye on it.
