We try to save teeth first. When one genuinely cannot be saved, we take it out comfortably and talk about what replaces it.
Tooth Extractions
Removing a tooth is our last option, not our first. Some teeth, though, are cracked below the gum, too decayed to rebuild, or loose from advanced gum disease, and at that point holding on costs you bone and comfort. We perform most extractions here in the office, with the area fully numbed and nitrous sedation available if you would rather not be fully present for it.
Impacted wisdom teeth are the one routine exception. Those we refer to an oral surgeon, because that is the right setting for them. And when a tooth in a visible or load-bearing spot comes out, we talk about what fills the gap in the same conversation, because an empty space is not a finished plan.

Saving comes first
If a filling, a crown or a root canal can keep the tooth, that is what we will recommend. Extraction is what we do when those are genuinely out of reach.

The area is numbed completely, so the extraction itself is pressure rather than pain. Afterward expect soreness for a few days, manageable with what we recommend, and we will tell you exactly what is normal and what is not.
Do you remove wisdom teeth?
We remove erupted wisdom teeth in many cases. Impacted wisdom teeth, the ones still under the gum or bone, we refer to an oral surgeon, because that is where they are best handled.
Do I have to replace the tooth?
Not always. A back molar with no partner above it may be fine left alone. But most gaps are worth filling, because the bone underneath shrinks and the neighboring teeth drift and take on more load. We will give you a straight answer for your specific tooth.
